Georgetown, SC
A 65 mile day to get to Georgetown No water obstacles. We only go about 9 -10 knots to save diesel so that 65 miles takes us 7 hours.
The port engine didn't start in the morning. After 2 stressful hours Bill figured out and fixed the problem. My hero! Yesterday he replaced the fuel filters and apparently some air got into the fuel lines. While checking the whole sytem he found a tiny pump on the back of the engine loose and ready to fall off. He tightened it. A blessing in disguise that it happened! If he hadn't found that little loose pump it would have leaked diesel into the bilge, and then out into the water creating enviromnetal issues.
Goergetown was a cute seaport town with again......lots of history, old buildings. Lots of cute shops, restaurants/bars, a narrated historic trolley going through town. We liked it so much we spent 2 nights here.
We rode our bikes to the grocery store right behind the historic area and were amazed how the neighborhood changed within a mile. The historic area was so nice, but the nearest grocery store we were directed to was scary. We couldn't get out of there quick enough and were wishing we had mace with us.
Hundreds of thousands of swallows were flying in circles around and around high up inthe air over the water this evening. It was so bizarre.
The weather is changing, 80 degrees and humid. First we were using our heater, now it is the air conditioner. Time to go north!
Thick fog came in that morning
birds nesting on the channel marker
All these men from Georgetown died in the Revolutionary War.
History is still very much alive here!!
Lots of docksare close to the length of a football field as the edges are so marshy
and shallow
