Southport and Surf City
The ICW path winds around lots of little islands and sandbars-
navigation can be tough!
- 48 degrees and windy as we left Myrtle Beach to go north. It was 80 degrees just a few days before!
- Spring Break in Myrtle Beach along with all the college kids!
-Southport is where many movies have been filmed. A very nice, picturesque little town.
We spent one night here and one night in Surf City.
-Went through 3 swing bridges today. If the wind gets to 25 miles per hour or over they shut them down. Good luck if you're stuck in between....... We radio as we get close to let them know we need to pass though. Most open on the hour so sometimes we speed way up and burn fuel trying to make the bridge opening time. All the cars wait for us. We hear in Florida it is a $25, 000 fine to have a bridge open for you if you don't need it
-We are early in "the Season" so lots of facilities are not quite ready yet, pools aren't heated. The good news is that nothing is crowded. If there is a coutesy car available, many times we are the only ones using it, so they let us keep it for an extended time.
