                                              St. Simons Island,  Georgia

- Charlie and E.J. were  wonderful hosts to us when we arrived at St. Simons Island.  We made the 170 mile Gulf Crossing with them a year ago .  We haven't spent that much time together, but feel like we have known each other for 30 years. They spent 6 hours driving us around showing us "everything"  here and on Sea Island.  They took us to lunch and dinner at the  seafood restaurants they own, one in Darien and one in St. Simons.  We didn't know it, but it was Charlie's  birthday that day and  we were special guests at his  family birthday dinner.   We've  never had such great seafood anywhere!!

Charlie and E.J - The best harbor hosts ever! - We have been so fortunate with the wonderful friendships that we have made along the way on the loop.  We never expected this, but it has been one of the best parts of this whole trip.  We see people all the time that we never expect to see again.

-  St. Simons is a really beautiful, green and lush, low key, upscale island with a lot of history off the coast  of Brunswick.

-We spent  2 nights here.  The marina let us use their free courtesy car - great!

-We've seen so many dolphins in Georgia.  Actually Georgia is known for having the most dolphins of anywhere around.

-A big thunderstorm the first night - we've been waiting for that as we've been lucky missing most of them.  They get lots of thunderstorms here!

-We saw a commercial fishing boat, a trawler, that had a lightening rod on it.  Apparently around here if you take passengers for hire on your boat you have to have a lightening rod on it.

-Heard all about chiggers, sand flies, no-see-ems, palmetto ticks, regular ticks, mosquitoes, black flies, deer flies - they have them all!!
Fort Frederica

Some of the remains from the old British military  town of Frederica.  It was a frontier town to fight the Spanish,  and the hub of the miltary operations in Georgia in the 1700's.
alligator nearby- we fed him hush puppies!
crickets for fishing - the local hardware store
Seeds for planting (never heard of these) - you don't see this in our hardware stores
Spanish moss hangs from the trees
