Jeckyll Island
Beginning in 1895, sixty five very wealthy families together bought, or built houses, and vacationed together here on Jeckyll Island. It was an exclusive, private club. These families were so wealthy that together they owned 1/6 of the world's wealth at that time. The "Club" lasted until about the late 1930's when the depression came. The houses are still there in the historic district which is now owned by the state of Georgia - amazing to see!!
We spent 2 nights at the Municipal Marina. The marina had a free, always nice, golf cart that we were able to borrow to see the island. There were beautiful beaches on the Atlantic side of the island.
The Jeckyll Island Clubhouse
The Georgia Sea Turtle Center and Turtle Hospital - Only two in the U.S. If you find a sick turtle they will drive hours to pick it up and transport it back there.
The Jeckyll Municipal Marina and Restaurant. We had dinner here both nights and enjoyed listening to the live music. There was a big thunderstorm while we were here - much better to be in here than on the boat!
