                                                                   Marsh Harbor

Marsh Harbor

Marsh Harbor - the third largest city in the Bahamas!  We arrived here 3 nights ago.  The last time we provisioned was 6 weeks ago  -we're  stocking up as they have a "real' grocery store. Prices are
higher than home, but not outrageous like on the other smaller islands. I've walked to the grocery store a couple of miles away
with a backpack and a bag for groceries 3 days in a row.

- Thea and Bob are arriving today to spend a week with us on the boat
-We  broke down and bought a new outboard motor for the dinghy here (15 1/2 horsepower Mercury that I can start!).  Bill has been worrying the old motor for 1 1/2 years now and finally it wouldn't
start any more. Happy Anniversary, Merry Xmas.

Floats are hanging in lots of trees- they land on the beach and people put them on their trees,  fences, etc.

Welcome to island life.....
-Life is slow.....people are very friendly,  everyone has time and wants to talk
-They celebrate the sunset. At sunset everyone on the dock gathers at the end of it and blows their conch shells.  People bring their drinks and socialize like this every night.
- The power goes out constantly.  It happens a couple of times a day on average. Lots of peple have their own generators.
-Tried to do wash at the marina.  The electricity goes out half way though the wash cycle.   The dryer all of a sudden won't work because  the propane tank is  empty and won't be filled for 4 days.
-Coloring my hair in the marina shower and the water pressure is gone.......(I did get it clean finally!)
-Bill tried to buy a minor boat part - no problem - we can get it here in 3 weeks.
-Many businesses take cash only.
-Off the main street, Marsh Harbor reminds us of Mexico.  The income level is low.
-We've had no problems drinking the water so far.
- 3 1/2 weeks and we still haven't been able to mail a letter!  Post offices on all these island are only open 1-2 days a week for a few hours (and they change their hours to suit their schedule ).   We have missed the open post office on every island so far.
-Island time - There is no hurry to get anything done!!!

The following picutures are from Man-O-War Cay.

From the rising of the sun to its going down the Lord's name is to be praised.  Psalm 113.3
