Back in The USA
One of the best descriptions we heard of the Bahamas was that Walmart was 200 miles to the west. Wow, was that true! On many islands the biggest grocery store was smaller than a 7/11 and there were few shops of any kind. Coming back to the U.S. we see giant buildings, lots of commercialism, lots of money and lots of people.
The Bahamas are a third world country, but in general the people were friendly, genuinely helpful and definitely on island time. Most islanders work a couple of jobs (our bartender at West End turned out to be the immigration officer also) as prices are very high, but they seemed happy and content with what they have. It is truly a very special place and a boaters paradise. The water is like a dream. Florida doesn't compare with what we saw here. We were advised by boaters who knew to skip the Florida Keys and go to the Bahamas instead. We are SO..... glad we took that advice!!!
Now What ?? We're back in North Palm Harbor, Fl. regrouping for a couple of nights here as we re-supply and try to figure out our new schedule. We'll be taking about a month to head north up the Intercoastal Waterway to Savannah, GA.
