                                                        Santibel Island

A low key, tropical island paradise.

We spent one night at the Santibel Marina.  At nighttime there was  light around the boat and you could see so many fish it looked like you were in an aquarium.

Blueberry muffins delivered to your boat in the morning.

More the half the island is a wildlife preserve.

Saw a baby alligator on the bike path.      I

-         Beautiful white sand beach -water is in the low 80's.

-          Famous for shells on the white sand beaches- didn't find any good ones on the south end where we were looking

-         Bike paths everywhere, and we rode everywhere

Tallest building on the island is 2 stories

-         No chain stores except dairy queen and 7-11 which have been there forever.

-         Doesn’t change much. (they have  regulations).  I've been here 3X over the last 35 years.  It looks pretty much the same, but upgraded.

Tennis courts everywhere- more than I have ever seen anywhere.

hurricane evacuation route

The Periwinkle campground  and bird sanctuary are the same as 35 years ago when I first camped there with my mom and  20 years ago when we camped there as a family.

We rode our bikes to a very cool Tiki bar on the beach, and then half way around the island to find Bob a T-shirt.

All the streets begin with the word "dam" (Boca Grande).
