                                                                        Little Falls, NY

We did 7 locks and 40 miles today to get  to the town of Little Falls.

It is a very interesting town which  has sadly seen much better days.  At one time it had many huge manufacturing plants and there was obviously money here.  The goods that were manufacured were placed on barges and transported through the Erie Canal.  All of those large manufacturing plants are now shut down and abandoned as the USA doesn't manufacture hardly anything anymore.  There are many large, old, empty brick buildings and lots of big, old beautiful houses.  With their industry gone the people here are struggling. The only plant still working is the lumber mill.

We really liked it here and stayed here 2 nights.  We were tired and had a much needed "down" day (laundry, relaxing and some boat maintenance).  We are both feeling just drained - so much go, go, go and not much down time.

I rode my bike all over, exploring.  This is such a different type of place with all the old abandoned manufacturing buildings.  The history of this abandonment is sad and fascinating.

Abandoned manufacturing plants.
Old church in town.

Tugboat tied up behind us - 115 years old and still a working tug.  The governor of New York was coming to visit it tomorrow.

Spending the nights tied up on the city wall - great stop! Nice boaters lounge, etc.
Beautiful old abandoned building.

Old abandoned manufacturing plant on the river.

Got to get under this!  Lock 17

A little tug and a big tug.
