                                                                 New York

Sunrise - pretty early for me!
We left at 5:30 AM and made it the 100 miles from Atlantic City to New York - 9 hours.
When we started out it was fairly calm but as they day wore on it got really windy.
The winds were predicted to be 20 mph and actually turned out to be 30-35 mph.

much rougher later in the day....
Great Killls Yacht Club, Staten Island - where we stayed
A Great Loop Harbor Host from Geat KiIls Yacht club helped us out tremendously.
He smoothed the whole New York trip over for us.  He got us a metro pass, drove us to the subway station, provided us with a bus map and gave us lots of advice.  At the bar in the club  everyone  was anxious to hear our story andvery helpful with advice as to what we should do in the City. This was so great as we had no clue!!
Staten Island ferry- Statue of Liberty in background
We took the subway to the ferry, then the ferry to New York City.  The ferry hold about 3-4,000 people.  Inside the ternminal there were large salt water fish tanks and a violen player - very calming!
ferry ride to City

We walked 11 miles the first day  and 6 miles the second.  We saw in 2 days what people normally see in a week- and our feet felt like it.
Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, China Town, Little Italy, Greenwich Village, the Battery,  9/11 Memorial,  World Trade Center, Times Square, Katz Deli, a play on broadway,  New York Stock Exchange , Federal Hall National Memorial. Central Park, Trinity church, St. Pauls church
On all the streets vendors were selling fruit, vegetables and small tomato and herb plants.
The Manhattan streets were really clean and felt very safe. You are almost alwaysin the shade downtown as the buildings are so tall .
9/11 Memorial reflection pool at the World Trade Center site, former location of the Twin towers

 Trinity church built in 1686
Taxis , buses, cars, bikes, pedicabs all over the streets.  Crazy!  You have to be 17 to drive in New York City- if you should want to.
Times Square

The noise level is overwhelming everywhere with sirens, horns, cars, construction, people

lots more pictures on next blog....
