Stuck in Atlantic City

Atlantic City
Traveled on the outside in the Atlantic the 50 miles from Cape May to here. We have heard of lots of problems with sandbars and the very shallow, shifting bottom (shoaling) of the ICW.around here. The state of New Jersey and the federal government are in disagreement over who should pay for the dredging of the ICW - so it is not being dredged. Hurricane Sandy made it all worse.
The weather has just not been cooperating with us. We weren't planning on going to Atlantic City at all and ended up spending 6 nights here. We're trying to get 100 miles up the coast to New York City and the winds, swells, tides and thunderstorms have all been problems. There are a whole group of boaters in the same situation here trying to get north also. The ICW north of here has lots of shoaling so we are planning to travel on the outside to NYC.
You know it's always windy here when they have a windfarm with lots of windmills right near the casino.
Bill checks the weather constantly looking for a good weather window.
We are at the marina of the Golden Nugget Casino. This is a good place to be stuck so we shouldn''t complain. The first night we were at Kammermans marina and didn't like it so well so we moved.
Atlantic City is not a place where we feel comfortable walking around. We rented a car and drove a little north to Brigantine and it was nice, a little further south was nice also.
In New Jersey you don't pump your own gas. Gas stations are old fashioned "full-service", with even mechanics there.
They are still rebuilding here from hurricane Sandy.
The boardwalk, some gambling, a Tom Petty imitator band concert, jacuzzis, nice weight room, too much food eaten at the buffet, the Jitney(small local bus), Chart house happy hours - pretty good here even if we DO WANT TO LEAVE!

When you have shoaling you have a very shallow waterway with sandbars that are shifting around in it.
