Havre De Grace and Delaware City

Havre du Grace is a cute town with a large French influence.

The  town has many unusual  retro collectibles and antiques.  Really intersting shops.

Havre De Grace is the duck decoy capital of the world.

The east side of the bay is all military water and land.

The Burning of the Socks  ---  To celebrate the first day of spring and the beginning of boating season boaters take off their socks and burn them at this annual event.   No more wearing socks after this day, no matter how cold !  Of course we missed this event - we seem to be always one week early or late for special events.

We had great pastry from a french bakery the morning we left - not our usual get on the water quick food.  Actually we were at a little tavern the night before and had very nice happy hour with lots of local people there.

Weather issues again , so rather than be stuck here for days we decided to go for it and try to get to Cape May before predicted storms.

Costumes from the Hunger Games Movie - this comic book and collectible store bought 40 costumes from the Hunger Games and has them for sale

Delaware City Marina
A sailboat attempting to dock hit another boat and the captain fell overboard.  This river has really stong 3-6 mph tidal currents that run through here. We were in a "weather update" meeting given by the harbormaster when the emergency call came.  We all ran there.  They couldn't get through the dock gate as they had no key (a heads up on their emergency preparedness).  Someone scaled the fenced dock -.  The boater was OK though somewhat delirious from hypothermia. His boat just had some dings on it.  Meanwhile Bill had run the other way, got his dingy and chased down the man's inflatable down which was traveling down the river fast.  We don't know what happended  but there was a line wrapped around his sailboat prop.

Delaware City - tiny town a couple of streets big
Went to  cool tavern for a drink with 2 other looper boats we met. They served us courtesy crab balls -interesting -like conch fritters.  The loopers (from Maine and Canada) were complaining how cold it was.  The Canadian lady was wearing 6 layers!

Begiining of the Chesapeake Delaware canal - beautiful, especially if it were sunny!!!

There are the remains of a big confederate prison on the island here that once held 30,000 prisoners.
We didnt have time to go over there.
