Tiki Bar Day!!
Tiki Bar Day here - what an event! This is an annual event the weekend before Rock Fish opening day. Thousands of people come to it from several states away . Tons of sand and palm trees are brought in and cover the street and the entire end of town is shut down. The palm trees will be dug up and moved next week as they can't live in this climate.
The young people in town consider this a "rite of passage".
Hundreds of police were around just in case but we didn't see any trouble.
We dedicated this day to our friend Bob who loves Tiki Bars. No umbrellas in the tropical drinks here though Bob.
The Tiki King and I
A long, tough day as we visited 3 different tiki bars..... I needed a nap in the middle to survive into the night. We rode our bikes over in the afternoon. Later when we went back we took the marina courtesy shuttle - a smart move.
We were going to leave yesterday and instead stayed an extra night (8 nights here at Solomons Island) not wanting to miss this. It far surpassed our expectations.
Even the weather cooperated as it was 72 degrees (last weekend it was 39 and snowed).
Got to have a steel drum band
Bill gave away his favorite "Perfect Day" that that night to a lady in the bar who was crying.
We didn't even know her, but she started talking, and crying about her husband leaving her after 25 years. Bill didn't know what to do, and was feeling really bad for her. He took off his hat which said "Perfect Day", gave it to her and told her that tomorrow would be a perfect day for her. She really appeciated it! Bill was hoping she would maybe give it back, but no. He'll have to get a new "Perfect Day" hat.
