Savannah, GA 3/2/16
Ten months after leaving the boat we are back again!! We are now on leg four of the Great Loop and have traveled about 4,000 miles, including a trip to the Bahamas. When we left the boat last May we thought we would be back in four months, but once again life intervened. When we left the boat in May I had just fallen off my bike (while reading a map and trying to turn it at the same time - which I will NEVER do again!) and sprained my wrist. It turned out I had broken it, and I ended up having it casted at home. I had an unplanned surgery in the fall, family obligations, holidays came along, we waited for warmer weather and now it is MARCH. It feels great to be back!!
Bill at the airport in Savannah. Happy to see me!
Bill arrived back here 2 weeks before I did and worked like a maniac cleaning, fixing, preparing and generally getting the boat ready to be underway again. Glad I missed that part! Generally he was happy with the conditon of the boat when he arrived - no black mold issued from the humidity like we had in the past. We are stored at Hinkleys, a very high end boat yard and are by farrr one of the smaller boats here. We replaced water pump impellers, drive shaft seals, fuel filter systems and a broken window. We also got a new boat cover to cover the whole boat when we store again.
The boat is up on blocks in the back of the boat yard - which is all dirt and full of mud due to the rain. The first day Bill was there he plugged in his coffee pot (the boat had an extension cord with power running to it) and shorted out much of the boat yard. It was a GREAT day when the boat was moved to the water and the engines and all systems worked!
I had forgotten how much stuff we had on the boat. There is so much canned food, paper goods, toiletries, etc. here we could survive on our own for a couple of months. We over bought when going to the Bahamas not knowing what we would need. I also forgot about all the shells that I couldn't get home on the plane - no need to collect any more for awhile! We have lots of clothes here. Each time we come we forget what we have and bring more.....
We expect to be here a few days provisioning before we head out. It's great to be back!!
