                                    Green Turtle Cay, New Plymouth

This is the 5th day we have been on Green Turtle Cay.  We are waiting for a good weather window to cross "the Whale" - think it's tomorrow!
With the inflatable we took a 4 mile trip to  Crab Cay which had  a beautiful deserted beach .  I found lots of great shells  (which Bill wasn't happy about!)

New Plymouth is the only town (pop. 250) on the island.  It is very British and was started when "the Loyalists"  (people who supported great Britain in the Revolutionary War) left the US and relocated here 200 years ago. The grocery store owner was very proud of being "eighth generation" here. He said the biggest probem they have  is that this generation of kids have gone to college and now with their degrees they go to the US to find better jobs. The true Bahamanian islanders and their lifestyle is dying out.

I rode my bike to town a few times just to buy a loaf of fresh homeade coconut and cinnamon raisin bread.  There are only a few small cars here, everyone uses golf carts to get around.

Four grocery stores on the island.  The other 3 are are "slightly" bigger- glad we brought so much food with us!  Lots of churches - must be 10 in this tiny town.
