Here For a Week in Fort Myers

We rented a car for 3 days ($40. total - the Enterprise weekend special - and they picked us up/ returned us to the marina) and saw the area around Ft Myers.  It’s cheaper and easier to rent a car than change marinas. We  wouldn’t have gotten a true perspective of the area without the car.

We visited Naples, Marco Island, Fort Myers Beach, Cape Coral, another trip over to Sanibel Island and La Belle (where we are storing the boat).

Fort Myers is all about tourism and beaches. There is no other industry there.

Fifteen minutes inland it is rural,  empty land, cattle, orange groves, crops and really small towns.  It is gorgeous country, green, tropical and lush.

Friday night was downtown band night.  There were bands on the street corners all over downtown. Very fun!

Santibel Island

There were manatees, dolphins and tarpin in the marina.

Great shelling on Santabel Island this time on  the north end  of the island after a storm.  I have no idea what I will do with all the shells I have collected everywhere!!

A combination of pine trees and palm trees everywhere.

smashed my finger in the door

Naples is  the top real estate by far.  It is the second wealthiest city in the country.  We talked to a contractor who had worked on 4 waterfront homes - all between 28,000 and 35,000 square feet.

The water is 85 degrees and blue/green in the Gulf.  The sand feels like powder and is pure white.

                                                          Marco Island
The river feeding into fort Myers is root beer brown color, just like all the other bays and rivers.

life preservers free on the beach for kids

We went to the "Drum Circle” in the park downtown.  I liked it so much I might have to look into that at home.

Docktails twice with Tom and Patsy on True North.
