                                                            Venice

Venice

After an easy 20 miles on the Gulf we are now in Venice.  There were too many low bridges, too much shallow water, and it was good weather so we left the ICW and traveled  outside on the Gulf. We docked at the Crow’s Nest Marina for 2 nights.

Venice has a beautiful marina and is a really nice small town.  There is a big sandbar right in the middle of the channel that people anchor on  and swim on.  It was packed with boats on the weekend.  We saw lots of really unusual fish right around our boat.  There were  Ink Fish which are really weird looking.  They look like small mantarays and squirt ink when scared.  At night we heard clawing sounds under the boat all night.  It turned out there were large, 5-6 inch diameter, crabs on the bottom of the boat eating something off of it.  The sounds we heard were their claws on the boat.

We visited our  neighbors from up north, Dick and Chris, and had a really great time with them. They had a beach party so we got a chance to meet lots of their friends.  I got to play tennis at the local courts in a fun match and had a bike tour of the island from Dick.
