Done With the Trent - Severne and into the Georgian Bay!

Beckwick Isalnd  - anchored for the night  - a deserted island with a sand beach

The Georgian Bay -The land of 100,000 islands - 30,000 above the water and 70.000 below!
Our route up the bay is 168 crooked miles (100 straight).  The North Channel route will be 138 crooked  miles.

We almost had a disasterous end to our trip while exiting the Trent-Severne.  Bill was at the helm  looking down at the instruments  when over our radio came an urgent yell - "Bill - Out of channel" from Lerylynne behind us.  Bill put the boat into reverse so quickly the bow actually jumped out of the water.  We did NOT hit a huge rock the size of our boat that was right underwater (missed by
inches).  Bill was shaken up for a couple of days over it. It was extremely confusing right there with the red and green channel markers zig zagging around shallow rocks.

The exposed and unexposed rocks and shallow water around here are a boater's nightmare.  Some of the rocks drop straight down underwater like 50 feet.  It is The marked channel winding through the rocks is soo narrow, sometimes only 20 feet wide. It IS really, really  beautiful here though!!!!

The 45 locks of the Trent Severne are behind us!

Midland was our first stop into the Georgian Bay.  Bill actually rode his bike 7 miles and came back with 2 cases of water, a case of beer, flowers and licorice all in his multiple backpacks.

We had a nice celebratory meal with Learylynne and Our Venture at the famous Henry's fishouse. there.

Beckwick Island -Pulling up the anchor....
Anchored here at Beckwick Island overnight.  It was so peaceful and quiet.  Anchoring out has a totlly different feel than being in a marina. The  water was 74 degrees and the air was 85 degrees and muggy.  I  floated on my boogie board for about an hour behind the boat.

Perry Sound Marina
Parry Sound - After all the tiny places we have been at we were shocked to find a huge cruise ship tied up at the city dock where we planned to dock (this city is not that big!).  It only comes 7 days a year - we timed that right!   Parry Sound is the only port deep enough for it anywhere around ( other ports for it are Niagra Falls, Chicago. and Toronto).  This was  a fun town - the marina is actually run by the Indian tribe and there were many authentic Indian stores in town.
