Pickwick Lake, Grand Harbor
and Florence Marinas
We have gone faster than expected to avoid bad weather and are now ahead of schedule. We don't need to be at the Great Loop Rendezvous for another week and a half (it is only 60 miles away) so we are slowing way down. We are at Pickwick Lake which is beautiful. It reminds us of Lake Charlevoix, but no sandy beaches. The trees come right to the edge of the water everywhere on it. Our dock is in Tennessee, the dock next to us is Alabama and 50 feet out into the river it is Mississippi. We spent a week at Grand Haven marina. It was a great marina with a nice swimming pool, a free coutesy car that we used to visit nearby towns and a very fun restaurant/bar (Freddies) nearby. Having the boat there a week allowed Bill time to do the marathon drive to Michigan and back (2000 miles in 2 1/2 days) to retrieve his truck. We then went down the lake through 2 locks and stayed at Florence a few days. We were there on homecoming football night for the Univ. of Northern Alabama - a big deal in a little town.
A lot of people on that boat !
Pickwick Lake- lots of islands, gorgeous around here
There is a pipe organ on top of the house boat and every evening at sunset the owner, an older man, plays a few songs. We heard him play "Take Me Out to the Ball Game and When the Saints Go Marching In". You can hear it all over the marina. So cool!
