Yorktown,  Jamestown,  Norfolk, Virginia Beach - ,Virginia

Bill got cultured this weekend. The weather  wasn't good for traveling,  so we stayed put for 3 nights and rented a car to see everything we could. This area has so many great things and we packed it in.

We visited historic Yorktown and the Jamestown settlement the same day. We really enjoyed Yorktown and Jamestown- much more than we thought we would.  We realized that the history we learned in school is alot of times inaccurate and really incomplete.   Yorktown is all about the history of the American Revolution. The Jamestown Settlement is a replica of America's first permanent colony.  Williamberg, Jamestown and Yorktown are called  the Colonial Triangle.

Virginia Beach reminds us of Myrtle Beach., SC.  Spring break there, but it was rainy so not many people were out on the streets.

Visited the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfork.  It was  amazing!  Chryler (as in  cars) had one of the most impresive art collections in the country, and donated it to the City of Norfork, stipulating admission be free to the public. It encompasses 5,000 years of art - everything from Egyptian mummies, rare European masters' paintings, one of the  biggest glass collections in the USA , a working glass blowing shop  and sculpture works.

Bill endured it all to make me happy....

1607 ship (replica) that  sailed to Virginia from Great Britain to establish the first colony- It's only 65 feet long (our boat is 40!) and had about 30 men on it.
