                                                 Across Lake Okeeochobee

The water is brown!

Two days on the water under our belt.  The boat is running great!  Its hard to believe that it hasn't been used for 7 months, also that it is 30 years old.  The very first day we travelled about 20 miles east across Florida to Moore Haven where we tied up for the night on the wall of the city dock. Not much to see there - basically a small very depressed town centered around crop workers.

We're supposed to get through there??  Some really narrow areas....

The next day we did 75 miles (only going 10 miles an hour to save gas so that took a long time!) and 3 locks.  We crossed Lake Okochobee, the giant lake in the middle of Florida  that is basicly a GIANT swamp.  We stayed in a very narrow marked channel the whole way which averaged about 11 ft deep, though at times it was only 5-6 feet.  We didn't see any alligators although  it is full of them.
