                                                 Nashville

We had a great time in Nashville.  We rented a car and went to see what it was like.  Well, it’s all about country music!  Downtown Nashville is one honkytonk bar/club next door to another.  All of them have country music singers that entertain constantly from 10 am on.  We were there on a Tues. afternoon. On a weekend night it would be probably be so crowded it would be tough to even get in. Interspersed with the bars were stores selling cowboy boots.  There are more stores selling cowboy boots than there are fudge shops on Mackinac Island! Country music is blaring out of loud speakers on the streets and in the parking garages.

WE were fortunate in that we had friends who had just visited and told us what to do and see. We visited the Country Music Hall of Fame.  It was really impressive, and well worth seeing even if you aren’t really into country music.  The 2 singers they were featuring were Carrie Underwood and Reba Macintyre.

The Opry Resort and hotel looked like a Vegas Casino- about a block long and really beautiful.  We ate there and took their shuttle to Grand Old Opry.
We went to a show at the Grand Old Opry.  That was really something.  The Grand Old Opry is produced as a radio show live during the performance.  They’ve been doing it now for 88 years. The show consists of 8 different performers that get 15 min each.  Vince Gill was the big performer of the night.
Bill was a great driver and after this entire long…  day drove home the 2 hours late at night back to the marina.

Nashville has a cool bike system where you can put some money in a meter and take a bike to ride.  It can be returned to lots of different locations.
