                                                           THE OSWEGO CANAL
                                                              Brewerton to Oswego

Fifty miles and nine locks on our first day. I'm trying to get back into the swing of it and remember what to do!

Its beautiful country here.  It reminds us of nothern Michigan! The canal water is 76 degrees and the air is 90.

Oswego
Oswego

We stayed in Oswego for 3 nights waiting  for a good weather day to make the Lake Ontario crossing  (a long way and a big deal).
Two times within  a couple of hours boats entered the marina too fast as they had lost their steering (engine probs) and almost hit our boat .  Bill reacted super quick with fenders so there was no damage. Both were Canadian, loved to talk, and ended up in slips on either side of us.  The favorite quote we heard repeated many times from  them was" you can scratch another man's wife, but you better not ever scratch his boat".

There was a big farmers market in town.  Three quarters of the vendors were Amish farmers with their entire families there.  This northern New York and Pennsylvania has alot of Amish.  I bought fruits, vegetables, honey and flowers from - hard to resist the  cute Amish families selling this stuff!

Fort Ontario  - the War of 1812  I really didn't know anything about this war, but now I do!
War of 1812 stuff all over town.
Coal Mining
Country rock band concert in front our our marina.
