          Crossing the Gulf Tonight!!

All the conditions are finally good and we are making the 170 miles Gulf crossing tonight!  After a week in Carabelle we are so ready to go. The tides, wind, waves, storms, and 24 hr. waiting period after a storm are all good for tonight. All the sources and the weather gurus we have consulted say go! We are traveling with 2 other boats.  One boat we have not met yet (they are meeting us in the channel) and the other we met last night and went to dinner with. We are leaving at 5:00pm from  Dog Island and should be arriving sometime tomorrow afternoon.  It should be a 19 hour trip.

Azaleas grow big here - giant bushes and up into the trees.

One interesting thing about Carabelle is that During WW11 this was the site of the amphibous training for all our military.  There was a huge military base camp here.  After the war  the townspeople were told to take anything they wanted for free from the base.  Everything left was buried in a giant hole in the ground.  They buried all the army trucks, etc.   The site was then bulldozed over so it looked like it never existed. There is a great WW11 museum in town .
