Pickwick Lake

                                   Pickwick  Lake

Pickwick Lake area is gorgeous.  It is huge with pine trees and hardwood trees all around.  There are lots of giant houseboats on it.  However it is  seasonal.  People boat from Memorial Day to Labor Day only.  It is “the place to be” back here.
We rented a car for a week to take care of getting all our provisions together.  After 4 trips to Walmart in 4 days, and so many trips to the hardware stores I lost count, we are actually ready to leave tomorrow.  It’s definitely time to move on as we’ve eaten at almost all the places around here. (Besides that  the river south of us starts flooding from the rain up north).  We’ve been to Freddie T’s 3 times now. Freddie T’s Beach Bar and Grill is one of the coolest places we’ve seen.  It’s a huge restaurant/ sports bar, with about 6 different rooms/venues in it, each with different ambiance and music – something for everyone.
I visited Shiloh National Military Park and Corinth.  (I actually tried to visit it last time but it was shut down due to the federal budget problem) This was an unforgettable place.  Shiloh was the site of a very large battle during the Civil War. About 110,000 soldiers fought there, with about 24,000 casualties. They say the battle here determined the course of the whole war. The 2 major railroads in the country crisscrossed here, and the winner  controlled them both.

All of the “loopers” have passed us by and are down in the Florida area now.   We are told the last looper came through here a month ago. It’s going to be very different on this next leg of the trip.
We did have “docktails” with neighbors on our dock the last 2 nights in a row.  Apparently docktails aren’t just for loopers! We heard about the “damn Yankees”.  Yes, it is still alive to some people living here.
