Paddle Boat on Kalmazoo River in Saugatuck MI |
We spent 2 great days in Saugatuck
and which gave us 2 different perspectives of the town. This is a really cute,
artsy, upscale little town. They don’t
have any fast food places or even a grocery store as they don’t want their
atmosphere ruined. It’ right on a river
and they actually have a river boat with paddles still operating. The river is really shallow and our props wee
stirring the mud (the depth was only 4 feet) getting out of our slip. The first day we were there on a Sun.
afternoon and happened to hit the annual beer and wine festival. There were crowds of people, a lot of
excitement and great band in park. (Yes we even danced!) The next day is looked like a ghost town and
lots of restaurants were closed. I guess
your experiences all depend upon which day of the week you visit places! That day we did our grocery shopping. We traveled by inflatable boat up the river
to the next town and then walked a mile each way (carrying our recyclable
bags). It really makes you think about
everything you buy (and for Bill - the beer) when you have to literally carry
it home.
South Haven was another very nice
marina and town. Bill got lost riding to
town looking to buy propane for the barbeque.
He was kind of upset that he rode many miles out of way. He looked really funny on his bike with a
propane tank strapped on the back of it! It’s really hot (85 degrees) and humid. We’re
running our air conditioner all the time. Glad the harbor pays the bill. Now we know what our slip fee goes for.
