Lake Charlevoix bridge opening for our passage
We had a rocky start this morning for
our long 50 mile boat trip today. Bill
went to start the engines – and nothing happened! For 20 minutes he tried all kinds of things
–and nothing happened. Eventually he
discovered there is a master breaker for everything electronic on the boat not
in the breaker panel. It’s a safety
feature. You can’t start the boat from one Helm if the other helm
(there are 2 steering wheels) isn’t turned off completely. Of all places it was
hidden in a panel behind one wall of the shower all by itself. Who would have ever have guessed?? Every day is a learning day!
As we left the Charlevoix harbor they
had to open the bridge for us to pass through.
We were pretty proud of that as they only need to do that for the BIG
boats. It was pretty cool that Bill’s
parents were standing next to the bridge taking pictures as we passed under it.
It took us about 5 hours to make the
50 mile trip down to Leland. The weather
was great, the boat trip was uneventful and I did get a good nap in. Bill is now 6/6 for getting into his slip
perfectly.
Lake Charlevoix Lighthouse
Oh, and he did compliment me on doing
good job with the lines and fenders coming into the slip. This boat is so tall
you can’t jump off it to do your own lines. The harbor had 4 deckhands working
to catch our lines and guide the boat in!
Leland is a cute little fishing
harbor and town. It centers around the
fishing industry and is full of cute shops and places to eat. We went to happy hour and celebrated our
boating success!
